Everywhere we look on our telephone tv screens, and in daily conversations we are assaulted with false messages that try to tell us we are not enough. We don’t have enough time, money, handsomeness, career success, or even happiness. We live in a foolish culture of consumerism, which thrives on the narrative of scarcity. The idea is pervasive: there’s not enough to go around, so we must compete to get what we can. Allowing our credit cards to rack up in order to try to find a shallow cure for being unhappy. All we are left with is debt. Debt is not freedom. It eats up your insides and keeps you from sleeping at night. It ruins your family life and interrupts your peace.
This mindset breeds fear and anxiety. It fosters a belief that life is a zero-sum game, where someone else’s gain is automatically our loss. We learn to compare ourselves, to chase validation, and to believe fulfillment lies just beyond the next goal or possession.
But what if we paused for a moment and questioned that story?
When we step outside—into a quiet forest, a blooming garden, or a clean public park we feel a different truth. Nature doesn’t rush, compete, or question its worth. It simply is. Trees grow without needing to outshine one another. Flowers bloom without needing applause. The abundance of the natural world is a quiet but powerful reminder our universe operates from a place of generosity, not lack.
Working together to protect nature helps us as a collective. Picking up the garbage from others and ensuring any pet debris is picked up and taken home. No one wants to let garbage shadow our public parks. Enjoy the abundance from taking care of your neighbourhood.
Even in our daily lives, abundance surrounds us more than we might realize. Consider the endless selection of food products, at your grocery store, the access to clean water, the technology that connects us, or the relationships we’ve built. When we begin to really see what’s around us, it becomes clear: we are not lacking. We are surrounded by blessings. Take time to feel into it gently and quietly. Lean into your calming box.
To truly experience this abundance, however, we must shift from a mindset of scarcity to one of gratitude. Gratitude isn’t just a warm feeling; it’s a powerful state of being. When we are grateful, we open ourselves to receive more—not because we’re chasing more, but because we’re finally aware of what’s already present. It’s like tuning into a frequency we didn’t realize we could access. On that frequency, creativity, wisdom, and joy flow freely. What can you create today? Where can you go to support art?
Gratitude also connects us to something deeper: pure consciousness—the quiet awareness beneath all thoughts and forms. From this space, we can begin to co-create our lives with clarity and intention. When we stop grasping and start appreciating, we find that what we were looking for was within us all along.
So as you move through your day, take a moment to breathe deeply and truly look around you. Let yourself feel the fullness of life—not in some grand, dramatic way, but in the small, quiet details.
Our centreing thought for today is:
“Today, I choose to see the abundance that already surrounds me.And, add to it in my own way gently”
